Alarming Footage Shows Instant Officers Get Knifed in Unexpected Assault
One senior officer who rushed to the help of a partner that was assaulted by a blade-wielder has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a road collision in the area in summer 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Policeman knifed," the officer stated over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashcam footage released by the agency revealed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sgt Foster from behind with a weapon pointed forward.
He collided with the officer who lost balance and fell to the pavement, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor even though being repeatedly struck with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a clear shot, bringing the confrontation to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get assistance on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell suffered two deep cuts to his neck and more wounds to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster received knife wounds.
Authorities said Sgt Foster employed his hands to stem his colleague's bleeding prior to medical personnel reached the scene.
The latest honor arrives after the law enforcement team were granted departmental Courage Honors in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the area Police Federation in spring 2024.
They were also awarded a Area Bravery Award in July 2024.
"The responses of the entire team ultimately rescued each other and ensured no members of the public suffered any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, per the department.
