The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
