Air travel have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a significant air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were stopped after an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the current status on their specific flights," the statement added.
